It's been awhile....

I, once again, have intended to post sooner and time just gets away. Life is moving along. All four of us have had ups and downs in adjusment. But we're moving along and I suppose that's what is important!

Lena Yi Yi has been home for just over 5 weeks and in our family just over 7 weeks. She is picking up new English words all the time. On her more "bouncy/happy" days she tries to use them quite often. On days when she's more "thoughtful", not as much. That's ok though.

She is enrolled in ballet once a week and yesterday had her first piano lesson. We found a teacher who speaks Chinese as well as some English. She is an international student at the local college. Yi Yi says she had some piano training while at the orphanage. Whoever was teaching her left the orphanage.

We are working on finding what she knows in math and it's obvious she likes math.

On a more humorous note we wanted her to try and find some of the foods she's used to at the local Asian market and at a larger Asian market in Wichita. Her food choices: Bean curd in chili sauce and a fruit that is called something like Loughee. Ok those were her Chinese choices. Everything else she pointed out: Hello Kitty candy that was pink. Pink strawberry wafer cookies, oh and sardines. She seems to be, for the most part, satisfied with the food we have here. I do serve a LOT of noodles and rice and she likes that best with a bit of chicken or fish.

And on another "pink" note, I hang our laundry on the line when it is warm enough (and it has been) Yi Yi was helping me and insisted that I use all the pink clothes pins first. If it's pink it's cool.

And on the more "official" front we've applied for her social security card and her citizenship certificate came from Homeland Security.

I think that's all the big stuff. I have a few more pictures too.

Blessings,

Lisa
